Classic Jingles Made For Memorable Ads

Having spent a significant part of my professional career in the advertising and digital agency space (predominantly agency management + operations + back office and not creative, account management, media, or strategy), I can’t help but acknowledge it’s changed the way I view ads.

Whether it’s print, digital, outdoor/OOH advertising, I often find myself more closely evaluating or assessing them.

Is the ad outright bad, just okay, good, or great?

Is the intended messaging clear?

Does it stand out and resonate?

Does it capture the audience or consumer’s attention?

And is the ad memorable? This is a big one!

Thinking back at all the ads that I’ve encountered over the years (and not just from my agency days), some of the most memorable ads (at least in my opinion) have often been the ones associated with a great tune and I don’t mean a top hit like Ingrid Michaelson’s “The Way I Am” which was featured in a 2007 Old Navy commercial.

No, I mean those classic jingles (predominantly from the 80s and 90s)!

The ones with a tune and lyrics that get stuck in your head long after the commercial has been retired. Ones that have surpassed the test of time. Ones that you may still remember to this day.

Classic jingles like those for Folgers (“The best part of waking up …”), Mount Airy Lodge (“All you have to bring is your love of everything …), Kim Carnes singing the jingle for Coca-Cola Classic (“You can’t be the feeling”), the “Extra Lasts Extra Long” jingle for Extra gum, and of course, who can forget those classic Mentos commercials.
