Stepping Into The Light With Lume Cube

Having the right amount of light when and where you need it most makes all the difference when filming, making videos, taking photos, live streaming and/or video conferencing. Sometimes you’re in a situation where you simply cannot get the correct level of natural or ambient light you need to capture that perfect look or shot. I’ve run into this issue on numerous occasions and started looking into panel lights for my projects.

Now, I wasn’t looking for ring lights or large panel lights for studio productions. I was primarily looking for panel lights that were small, lightweight, and portable that could be easily mounted onto a mirrorless camera and/or a tripod and offered a range of lighting options. After doing a bit of research, I settled on the PANEL MINI and PANEL GO from Lume Cube which were affordable and work great.

The Lume Cube PANEL MINI (60 LEDs) and PANEL GO (112 LEDs) are bi-color lighting panels with adjustable color temperatures from 3200K to 5600K (adjustable in increments of 100K) and adjustable brightness up to 100% (adjustable in increments of 5%) with the lowest brightness level starting at 1%. The color temperature, brightness level and battery life (displayed in both bars and hours/minutes) can be viewed on the built-in display located on the back of the lighting panels.

The PANEL MINI includes the lighting panel, USB-C charging cable, shoe mount, softening diffuser and instruction sheet. I also like the fact that there are two ¼” 20 threads to mount the PANEL MINI either horizontally or vertically on a camera or tripod. The PANEL GO includes the lighting panel, USB-C charging cable, shoe mount and instruction sheet. It also has a ¼” 20 thread to mount the PANEL GO in the horizontal position. According to the instructions, the PANEL MINI takes approx. 1.8 hours to charge and runs approx. 1.2 hours at 100% brightness. The PANEL GO takes approx. 3 hours to charge and runs approx. 2.3 hours at 50% brightness. Of course, individual results may vary depending on your operating conditions.

I typically set the PANEL MINI and PANEL GO at no more than 20% to 30% brightness at 5600K for video calls and taking photos indoors where the room lighting has been inadequate, and the panel lights have worked quite well. I used the PANEL MINI for numerous video calls that ran over 60 minutes and the panel light stayed cool to the touch the entire time which is great.

Lume Cube has an assortment of lighting products and accessories so definitely check out their website for a complete line of products. I’ll also include links to the PANEL MINI and PANEL GO on Amazon down below.
