Philips Hue App Version 5.69.0 for iOS Breaks Hue Bridge Connection
If you use the Philips Hue smart lighting system, you know the Philips Hue app is a core component in managing the system without physical switches.
And though the Philips Hue app usually works well from update to update, a recent version release (specifically, version 5.69.0 for iOS) brings along one significant bug.
If you close the Philips Hue app (or if it should unexpectedly quit), then re-launch, you’ll get the message “No bridge connection. Tap to reconnect”.
The latest version (version 5.69.0) of the Hue app loses or forgets its connection to the Hue Bridge and requires reconnecting or resyncing by tapping the button on the top of the Hue Bridge.
While not the end of the world, it can certainly be annoying, frustrating, and inconvenient to say the least.
How could something as basic as this be overlooked during testing? Hard to say!
Until a fix is released, one workaround is to avoid closing the Hue app. Another possible workaround circulating is to create (if you haven’t already done so) then sign into your Hue account and subsequently associate your Hue smart lighting system with your Hue account.
I haven’t tried this so I can’t independently confirm that this works. And for those who don’t want to associate their Hue lighting system with a Hue account, this certainly won’t be an ideal workaround.
Just to note … uninstalling the Hue app, rebooting your device, and then reinstalling the app does NOT resolve the issue and there is no option to revert to the previous version 5.68.0.
If you’re fortunate enough to still be on version 5.68.0, you may want to consider disabling App Store App Updates in the interim.
I had an iOS device still on version 5.68.0 that was working fine (I used it to troubleshoot the Hue Bridge connection issue) but before I could disable App Store App Updates, the Hue app updated to version 5.69.0.
Let’s hope a fix / update will be released in short order!
UPDATE: A fix / update (Philips Hue app version 5.69.1) has been released (as of 6/13/2026) to resolve the aforementioned bug. I’ve updated to and tested version 5.69.1 and can independently confirm version 5.69.1 does resolve the issue. If you manually perform an app update and Hue app version 5.69.1 does not immediately appear in your App Updates, you may need to refresh the page.
